The Life of a Hunter

Some of our family members drew Cow Elk tags for an area near Strawberry that none of us knew very well. So the weekend before the opener we (me, Brian, Jake and Jeff) went scouting. The weather was beautiful and the turning leaves were a sight to see. We had a great time exploring and the boys ran into quite a few elk we could shoot. I personally had a spike tag.
So... the next weekend we (me, Brian, Jeff, Steve, Zac and Lynn) went hunting in that same area. It was a little bit chilly, but the biggest thing was the rain. It was wet and slippery. The very first morning we ran into a whole herd and Jeff ran after them. He shot at them, but had no luck. Another time, we were sitting in a meadow and Jeff decided to go hike to the other meadow to see what was there. And lo and behold, a cow came trotting into the meadow Brian and I were in. I didn't have a cow tag and Brian didn't have a tag at all, so of course the cow just stood there watching us. We radio'd Jeff, but the cow wandered off just before he got back to us. It was pretty eventful. Jeff and Lynn got sick from soup that went bad, I made friends with a sheep dog and we even had a little 4-wheeler mishap, but everyone is okay and well. No dead elk though.. .. .. :(
